Power outage hits traffic signals in SW Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A power outage in southwest Portland affected traffic signals on major roads Thursday evening including Southwest Barbur Boulevard, Macadam Avenue and Terwilliger Boulevard.

Portland General Electric said an electrical-related issue caused a fire on a utility pole, which led to the outage. Power was out to several thousand PGE customers at 4:30 p.m., but was restored to most by 5:30 p.m.

The outage also knocked out power to traffic signals. As power was restored, some signals had red flashing lights. In either case, drivers were advised to treat the signals as four-way stops.

Drivers were also told to use caution and look for people walking or on bicycles who may be more difficult to see in low-light conditions.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation said drivers in those areas should expect delays for several hours.
