Powell's home to rare book worth $350,000

Posted: Updated:

Powell’s Books is home to an extremely rare book, an original edition of Lewis and Clark journals.

Out of one million books at Powell’s, the Lewis and Clark journals is the most expensive one at the store at $350,000.

The book is actually a two volume set and dates back to 1814.

The journals were published eight years after Lewis and Clark’s return. Only about 1,400 copies of this edition were ever published.

Michael Powell, former owner of the bookstore, said he bought the journals about eight years ago.

According to Powell, this is one of 23 sets remaining.

Even though they enjoy having it, Powell says the bookstore is not a library, and if there is someone who wants to buy it, they will sell it.

Powell’s says they will only show the book to customers with serious interest.

If you are interested in the unique book, you can schedule an appointment to check it out.
