Truck, Christmas donations stolen from Battle Ground family

BATTLE GROUND, WA (KPTV) -

Authorities are searching for whoever stole a local family's truck and all the donations they had gathered for a family in need.

The incident occurred off Northeast 219th Street in Battle Ground sometime between 9 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday. The suspect or suspects stole Mark Cunningham's white Nissan Titan pickup. They also broke into the family's car that was full of the presents because they were in the process of getting them ready to hand out.

Cunningham said Friday he went to Pacific Machine to get something for work and when they heard what happened, they gave enough money to replace all the presents, and then some. He is grateful for their gift but does not understand how someone could steal presents during the holidays.

"I don't know what brought someone to that point in their life that they have to go in someone’s driveway and steal," said Cunningham. "I can't hate the person, then I'm no better than the other people. I just wish they would get the help they need where they can buy stuff on their own, work on their own and support themselves without having to take from other people."

They had planned to hand out the presents to a family at a local shelter Friday evening, and now they are hoping to do it Sunday.

Anyone who knows anything about the theft is asked to call Clark County sheriff's deputies.
