PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division, volunteers, and Portland Police Officers spread some holiday cheer as they delivered thousands of holiday food boxes Saturday.

This is a 92-year-old holiday food program that has touched thousands of families throughout the years.

According to the Sunshine Division, holiday boxes will contain a protein of either chicken or turkey, side dishes for a traditional holiday meal, a pumpkin pie, dinner rolls, margarine, and a variety of fresh produce.

Hundreds of volunteers packed the boxes, the Air Guard helped get the boxes to the assigned precincts, and more volunteers helped home-deliver the completed boxes.

Boxes were delivered from the Sunshine Division warehouse, and the North, East, and the former Southeast Precincts.

Corporate sponsors of the event included Albertsons, Safeway, Botsford & Goodfellow Produce, Shari's Restaurant & Pies, Franz Bread, Ventura Foods and Fred Meyer.

Nearly 2,000 boxes were delivered this year, and an additional 1,500 boxes will help metro area nonprofit organizations.
