SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Police have tracked down a suspect accused of shooting a man during an attempted burglary.

Officers responded to a home on the 5500 block of 8th Avenue Southeast the afternoon of Dec. 10.

A 64-year-old man told detectives that he returned to find an unknown man burglarizing his home.

Police said the burglar confronted the man, held him at gunpoint and assaulted him. The victim attempted to defend himself, police said, and gunfire was exchanged between the two men.

The victim was shot and suffered a non-life threatening injury.

Officers and a K-9 team searched the area, but did not locate the suspect.

Through continued investigation and forensic evidence, police said they identified the suspect as 23-year-old Uriel Osornio Jr.

Osornio was located as a relative's home in south Salem on Monday morning and taken into custody.

He is facing charges of first-degree robbery, burglary, theft, assault and attempted aggravated murder.

The investigation is continuing and police said additional charges are expected.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 503-588-6123.
