Residents evacuate Oregon City apartments after landslide threat

OREGON CITY, OR (KPTV) -

Mandatory evacuations are underway in Oregon City over landslide concerns.

It was a very chaotic 24 hours for people living at the Berryhill Park Apartments in units 20 through 29.

Units 20 through 29 represent two separate buildings, and both have been deemed dangerous according to Oregon City code.

People living in those units were given until 5 p.m. Monday to pack up and get out, and they have no idea when they might be able to come back.

"I'm worried about getting everything out in time. I've been here almost 10 years now," said David Brown.

A street away from the Berryhill Apartments, the Forest Edge Apartments also have to worry about the threat of landslides.

The city is asking people at the Forest Edge Apartments to voluntarily evacuate with a mandatory evacuation possible, depending on the stability of the hillside.

The city says those buildings are not dangerous right now but conditions could change at any moment.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter to help people who have been displaced. The shelter is located at Oregon City High School.

You can find more info about the evacuations here.
