#TheGraciousGirlsGuide to wrapping up the Holidays

Posted: Updated:

Perhaps you get all of your gift wrap done in advance? If that’s the case, you can put your feet up and enjoy a gingerbread latte.

If not, let’s add an extra shot to said latte and get to work! Don’t be overwhelmed, #TheGraciousGirlsGuide to the Holidays is here to help!

First, breathe!

That’s right. Wrapping gifts may feel daunting, but let’s look at the gracious side. How lucky are we to have people in our lives to gift to?

Let’s take this time as an exercise in gratitude, reminding ourselves how thankful we are for those on our gift giving list. Even our critical Aunt Betty (of course we’ve changed the name to protect the grumpy.) Yes, grateful for even her and her critical ways.

Back to the task at hand! Here are a few quick and easy tricks to wrapping-up your gifts in style.

Second, gather supplies!

  • Reversible Paper – I LOVE reversible gift-wrap because it allows me to have a color palate and wrap gifts differently for different holiday events. I wrap those for our family in one side and those that travel out of town in the other.
  • Tape – for obvious reasons. Nothing holds up the gift wrap process like “Where’s the tape?”
  • Ribbon – I love ribbon with wire as it is very forgiving when it comes to making bows.
  • Scissors – two pairs: one for paper and one for ribbon.

Tie it Up!

  • Cut 2 tails of ribbon one about a foot and another the length that will wrap around your package.
  • From the ribbon roll create two even size loops—looping and twisting so the shiny side of the ribbon is on the outside. Continue to loop and twist until you have a bow the size you are looking for.
  • Tie with the long (tail) piece of ribbon. Making sure that the tails on each side of the bow are even.
  • Wrap around your gift.
  • Fluff the loops and tails

Mark it With a Personal Touch

Want to make sure anyone looking under the tree knows exactly who is getting your gift? Try adding Photo Gift Wrap Tags for a one-of-a-kind touch!

What you need

  • Wood Tags
  • Laser Printed Pictures
  • Modge Podge Photo Transfer
  • Modge Podge Finish Solution
  • Sponge brush
  • Wet Rag
  • Patience

  • Spread Modge Podge Photo Transfer on Tag.
  • Place photo on the tag, picture side down.
  • Let dry overnight.
  • With a damp cloth, gently rub off paper. You may need to try a few times.
  • Paint over picture with Finish.
  • Tie on present.

Mystery Wrap

One little trick we like to do in our house is to add an extra element of surprise to the gifts! Rather than tagging the gifts with a name, we tag with a random letter--I keep a master key (on my phone so I don’t lose it) that lists the name, letter and gift!

This is something my mom did growing up and it was a fun tradition. Be warned, your family may not embrace the idea right away as it does change the tradition of shaking and feeling gift sizes. But they will come around and have fond memories of the unique gifting tradition!

What you need

  • Reversible gift-wrap
  • Tape
  • Ribbon
  • Gold Sticker Letters

  • Wrap your gift
  • Pick a gold letter
  • In a secure place (I use my phone) write down the letter, the recipient and the gift.
  • Watch the anticipation and questions begin.

Wishing you and your family a most gracious and wonderful holiday!
