MCMINNVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

A woman was killed when a driver crossed into the wrong lane of Highway 99W near McMinnville and collided head-on with her car.

Emergency crews responded to Milepost 41 two miles south of McMinnville at 4 p.m. Monday.

Kristyanne Devries, 65, of Amity, was taken to Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville in critical condition. She was then taken to Oregon Health & Science University where she died.

Investigators said Devries was heading north in her 2007 Toyota Yaris when a 2010 Ford Flex traveling south crossed the center line and hit her car.

The driver of the Ford, Terrence Chitwood, 67, and his passenger, Doris Chitwood, 66, both of Amity, were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries described as minor.

Investigators said it is not yet known why he drove into oncoming traffic. The investigation is continuing, according to Oregon State Police.

Police said a third vehicle, a 1999 Subaru Forester, was behind the Toyota and was unable to stop after the initial collision and hit the Ford.

The driver of the Subaru, 37-year-old Michael Miller, and his passenger, 34-year-old Lindsey Patterson, both of Corvallis, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Highway 99W was closed for more than three hours after the crash.
