HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

Police arrested a 20-year-old man accused of stabbing and killing his mother's boyfriend with a kitchen knife at their Hillsboro home.

Timothy Lee Simpkins, 20, was booked in the Washington County Jail on the charge of murder.

Police were called out to a home on the 600 block of Northwest Garibaldi Street at 11:50 p.m. Monday.

Officers arrived and found 47-year-old Thomas Wearing suffering from a stab wound to his upper abdomen.

Investigators said Wearing lived at the home with his girlfriend and her adult son, Simpkins.

According to Hillsboro police, Wearing and Simpkins got into an argument that turned violent. A fight ensued, detectives said, and Simpkins grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Wearing once.

Wearing was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

According to the Washington County Jail website, Simpkins also faces charges of second-degree escape and assaulting a public safety officer. He is set to appear in court Wednesday.
