The second driver involved in a head-on crash on Highway 99W Wednesday has died from his injuries.

Emergency crews responded to the highway near Old River Road south of Corvallis at 7:26 a.m.

Investigators said Benjamin Keith Nelson, 25, of Monroe, was driving south on the highway in a 2000 Chevrolet Venture van when he crossed the center line and hit a northbound 2007 Ford Escape.

The driver of the Ford, Arthur Earl Fuller Jr., 54, of Eugene, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nelson was taken to the hospital with injuries described as critical. He then passed away Saturday.

Deputies said it wasn't clear why Nelson crossed into oncoming traffic.

The highway was closed for four hours following the crash.
