WARRENTON, OR (KPTV) -

A predatory sex offender befriended a teen boy and then sexually abused him, according to Clatsop County deputies.

Sidney Sean Mecham, 34, was booked in jail Saturday on charges including failure to report as a sex offender, furnishing alcohol to a minor, third-degree sexual abuse and probation violation.

Investigators said Mecham initiated contact with the 16-year-old boy during a chance meeting at a local park during the summer.

Mecham became a friend to the boy, according to deputies, and is believed to have started abusing him in October. The teen was able to put a stop to it in November, the sheriff's office reports.

After further alleged harassment in recent days from Mecham, deputies said the victim came forward to his family, who promptly notified the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies learned Mecham is listed by Oregon State Police as a predatory sex offender from a 1999 conviction in Multnomah County.

He has lived in Warrenton since July 2015, but investigators said he recently reported his current address as an apartment complex in southeast Portland.

Deputies said they are not aware of any additional victims at this time, but anyone with information about Mecham's actions is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency.
