PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A water main break happened at Northeast 102nd and Hancock Road, and flooded a homeowner's basement.

Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the water line break around 3:30 p.m.

The water entered a homeowners basement.

The homeowner said he was at a doctor's appointment when he got the call from a neighbor.

"My neighbors were combating the drains there, and it was in a lot better shape than I thought it was. They drained a lot of the water off before we could even get here. We got lucky," said Stephen Claypool.

Crews spent hours pumping the water out of the basement.

Traffic at Hancock and 102nd was blocked for a while due to the high water.
