JOSEPHINE COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon State Police say a woman was killed and three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 199.

The collision occurred at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday near milepost 21, two miles north of Cave Junction. Police say a 2004 Saturn sedan was traveling eastbound on Highway 199 when it lost control on the icy road. The Saturn slid into the path of a westbound Honda Civic and was struck on the passenger side.

Police say the front passenger of the Saturn, 61-year-old Darlene Varney of Cave Junction, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Saturn’s driver, 35-year-old Kaye Varney of Angwin, Calif., was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital with serious injuries.

The rear passenger of the Saturn, 61-year-old Ronald Varney of Cave Junction, was also taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield. Evidence suggests he was not wearing his seatbelt, according to police.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital with minor injuries and has been treated and released.
