Thief apologizes, returns Washington man’s stolen Christmas decorations

A Washington man says his holiday spirit has been returned, along with his stolen Christmas decorations.

Last week, someone stole more than a dozen candy cane decorations from Rob Wawrynski's lawn in Port Orchard. While the decorations were not the most expensive ones he owned, Wawrynski said he did not understand why someone would steal for Christmas.

Wawrynski got a shot of the thief’s face on his surveillance cameras, which he shared with the authorities and Fox Q13 News in Seattle. He put up a sign for the thief and said all he wanted was an apology.

"I want someone to recognize him, point him out, and tell him to come back over here and apologize to my face," he said.

On Thursday, the thief did just that. Wawrynski said the thief knocked on his door and said he was sorry. The thief said his friends recognized him from the video and convinced him to do the right thing.

Wawrynski said because of this, his Christmas will be "much brighter."
