SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

More than three dozen people are without a home after a large 3-alarm fire an apartment complex in Salem.

Fire crews responded to the La Palms Apartments in northeast Salem just after 7:30 Friday night.

When crews arrived, they found a third story apartment on fire, and flames spreading to the attic.

It took firefighters nearly three hours to put the fire out.

The Red Cross is helping 38 people who lived in 12 units of the building.

Everyone made it out safely, but fire crews said one cat died, and another one is missing.
