Driver in Linn County crashes after losing control on icy roads

LINN COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A Christmas morning crash sent six people to the hospital in Linn County.

Oregon State Police said troopers and medical personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Highway 20 just east of Santiam Junction at around 10 Friday morning.

Troopers said a 2003 Chevy Tahoe, was heading east on Highway 20, when the driver lost control on the icy roadway and crossed the center line, hitting a 2005 Dodge pick-up nearly head on.

A doctor was in a passing car and stopped to give medical attention until medical personnel arrived.

Oregon State Police said the driver of the Tahoe was Maria Sandoval, 42, of Salem. The driver of the Dodge pickup was Richard Barge, 44, of Terrebonne.

The Chevy Tahoe had four passengers inside, and the Dodge pick-up had one passenger, Kimberly Barge, 40. 

In all, six people were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 20 was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.
