Oak Grove church burglarized three times this month

Posted: Updated:

Burglars have targeted a church three times this month, including once over the Christmas holiday, and the most recent break-in hurts the most.

“This time, it was stuff that would go out directly to help people in need in our community,” said Lenny Bennett, the lead pastor at Good Roots Church.

Bennett said someone ransacked the room where church staff store toiletries church staff to people in need.

“Other stuff, we have insurance, it will get replaced,” he said. “This is like, they know why we're here and they know what we're about and they just kind of hit you where it counts. It's a different feeling, different level.”

The latest burglary occurred either on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Previously, a burglar or burglars went to the church between December 7-9 and again on December 15. Around $6,000 worth of sound equipment was stolen and a printer and sentimental items, including a decorative sword, were stolen from Bennett’s office.

The printer was later found.

Bennett said they’ve added new security measures after each burglary.

While the repeated crimes are frustrating, he has told his congregation to focus on forgiveness.

“We honestly believe that we are the recipients of the greatest gift ever and that was His grace,” he said. “And that we extend that to other people.”
