Germantown Road was shut down Sunday night between Highway 30 and Northwest Skyline Boulevard, and it will likely remain closed through Tuesday morning's commute.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation said crews worked throughout the day Monday to clear the road, but with temperatures again set to drop to freezing levels in higher elevations of the metro area Monday night, the roadway was expected to remain closed through rush hour Tuesday morning.

The road was closed due to icy conditions Sunday, as well as downed trees and abandoned vehicles in the roadway.

Local access is still available for people living in the area, but the public is asked to use alternate routes.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation warned of the possibility for black ice overnight, especially in shaded areas and on bridges and overpasses.

"Anyone choosing to drive at high elevations in Portland during winter weather is encouraged to use caution, slow down, allow three times the normal distance to brake and stop safely, use headlights and share the road responsibly," a bureau release states.

FOX 12 meteorologists said overall throughout the metro area, road conditions are expected to be clear Tuesday morning.

Temperatures are expected to be cold in the week ahead, but the seven-day forecast calls for clear skies and dry conditions.
