Inmate in custody after walking away from work crew off Hwy 20 near Philomath

An inmate who walked away from a work crew off Highway 20 near Philomath on Monday afternoon is now in custody.

Police apprehended 32-year-old Travis Riley around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said Riley was with an inmate crew from the Mill Creek Correctional Facility when he was discovered missing at 2:45 p.m. Monday.

The crew was being supervised by the Oregon Department of Forestry, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections.

Riley went to the minimum-security prison in May 2015 on two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of felon in possession of a weapon and one count of possession of methamphetamine out of Lane County.

His earliest release date was January 2019.
