HOOD RIVER, OR (KPTV) -

Deputies in Hood River recovered a woman’s body in a hiking area after a trail of blood in the snow led them to her Monday afternoon.

The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call about suspicions activity near the Family Man Staging Area around 1 p.m.

Deputies said they arrived to find about four inches of snow on the ground.

A trail of blood in the snow eventually led officials to the body of a woman about a quarter-mile north of the parking lot, according to deputies.

Deputies identified her Tuesday as 48-year-old Wendy Hildreth. An autopsy determined her death was a homicide due to blunt force trauma.

Investigators discovered the body of her estranged husband, 58-year-old Michael Hildreth, at her Hood River home Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing, but deputies said all evidence points to this case being a murder-suicide.

Wendy Hildreth had recently sought a restraining order against her husband and they were in the process of divorcing, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies are asking anyone who may have information about the murder or the Hildreths' recent relationship to contact the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the case is not believed to be connected to the investigation involving Alissa McCrann, the missing southeast Portland woman last seen Dec. 19. Her car was discovered several days later at Multnomah Falls, but she has not been located.
