NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

A man pounded on the doors of the Lincoln County Jail so he could report that he had shattered a window at the neighboring Lincoln County Courthouse, according to police.

Officers responded to the jail at 11:50 p.m. Sunday. Corrections deputies told police the suspect, identified as 56-year-old Mark Paul McKenzie of Newport, said he had smashed a window on a door at the courthouse.

Police said McKenzie took officers to the courthouse and showed them the window he smashed on an exit door on the north side of the building.

Investigators learned McKenzie threw a rock at the door three times until he shattered the entire window.

McKenzie was arrested and booked in the Lincoln County Jail on the charge of first-degree criminal mischief. His bail was set at $50,000.

A possible motive in this case was not released by police.
