Experts share a few quick DIY tips for winterizing your home

Posted: Updated:

Tuesday was one of the coldest days of the year so far, with more cold weather on the way.

With homeowners around the area looking to turn up the thermostat, experts shared a few ideas to consider to keep your house comfortable as the temperature drops.

Matt Ellis, the assistant manager at True Value Hankins Hardware, suggested that people need to make sure their furnace is running in tip top shape. Experts suggest dishing out a few extra bucks to get good quality filters that last a while.

Another quick fix homeowners can do to prep for winter is actually a relatively cheap option – using expanding foam.

“It's good for filling those gaps and cracks that can cause a draft,” Ellis explained.

Another suggestion he had was to use window films that can be cut and heat sealed to windows to cut drafts.
