Woman dies after being hit by tow truck in Salem

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A woman died after she was hit by a tow truck in Salem on Tuesday night.

Salem Police said officers were called out to the crash around 5:43 p.m.

Police said an investigation showed that Rebecca Schoff, 29, had been crossing Mission Street Southeast at Ford Street Southeast in an area that had no crosswalks, marked or unmarked.

A Bales and Brady Tow Truck driven by Timothy Hall, 35, was driving on Ford Street and was turning left onto westbound Mission Street when it hit Schoff.

Hall stayed on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Schoff was taken to Salem Hospital with injuries initially described as life-threatening. Police said she died Wednesday afternoon.

Police said no arrests have been made and no citations have been issued at this time.
