Icy roads cause problems for commuters Wednesday morning

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Below-freezing temperatures created icy conditions on many roads in Oregon and southwestern Washington Wednesday morning.

Because of leftover moisture from the rainy and snowy weather the area saw earlier in the week, some areas also saw patches of freezing fog.

That made for some slick spots on the roads for the morning commute.

There were reports of numerous crashes in areas from Clark County, Washington to the Oregon Coast, but no immediate reports of any road closures.

Things should thaw out later Wednesday, with sunny conditions and warmer temperatures in the forecast.

It will remain chilly through the weekend in the Portland metro area, however. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the 20s for the next several days due to cold east winds from the Columbia River Gorge.
