PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police were searching an area of southeast Portland Thursday morning for a suspect in a head-on crash that involved a police officer.

According to Portland police, an officer on patrol spotted an early-2000s silver Honda Civic speeding near Southeast 139th Avenue and Mill Street a little before 5:30 a.m.

When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver turned into a driveway, backed out, and drove head-on into the officer's patrol car, police said.

The officer wasn't seriously hurt.

Police said the suspect drove away and made it a couple blocks before getting out of the car and taking off on foot.

Officers were still searching for the suspect as of 6:30 a.m. and called in a K-9 unit for assistance.

Police described the suspect as a white man in his early 20s, wearing a red pullover.

Anyone with information on this case should call Portland police.
