PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

After months of investigation, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Portland man Thursday over a series of fires that happened in April and May.

Michael Townsend, 24, faces five counts of first degree arson for the fires for three fires that happened at 4950 NW Saltzman Road in April and two more at 20 NW 114th Avenue that happened in May.

The properties were all owned by the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation Department, and investigators determined road flares were being used to start the fires.

The WCSO investigators worked with Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue Deputy Fire Marshalls to identify Townsend, who was employed by the Parks and Recreation department at the time of the fires as a park patrol security officer.

Townsend was arrested Thursday at the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation Department facility on Northwest Walker Road, and is being held at the Washington County Jail on $250,000 bail.
