Goodwill's Portland Superstore sets new nationwide record

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

As 2015 winds to a close, thousands of people are donating their old furniture, clothes and other items to get tax write-offs for the year.

For that reason, Goodwill was a busy place on Thursday.

In the last weeks of December, more than 4,400 people gave to Goodwill's Portland Superstore on Southeast 6th Avenue. In fact, so many people have donated, that the Portland store has set a new nationwide record.

"I have to say, we in this area have the most generous donors in North America. Already today, they have broken their own North American record in giving. We expect more than 216 million pounds by the close of the last day of this year," said Goodwill Spokesperson Dale Emanuel.

The surge of donations means more jobs at Goodwill.

"Last year alone we helped more than 10,000 people get a paycheck and we delivered because of these precious donations more than 380,000 services. So what they're doing is tremendous besides giving themselves a little space and getting a tax break."
