An Amboy, WA family is devastated after they say someone poisoned two of their dogs.

The family is trying desperately to find who is responsible so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

When you step into Stephanie Elie's home, it's clear she and her family are big dog lovers.

One of their dogs, Wolfgar, appears okay but that wasn't the case on Sunday, when Stephanie said their 9-year-old son made a disturbing discovery in their yard.

"It was pieces of bread stuffed with like folded over, like a half sandwich full of rat poisoning and then rubber banded shut," said JP Elie.

The family rushed to clean it up and thought they had kept it safely away from Wolfgar and their other dog, Brigit.

As the family sat down to eat, Brigit began having seizures. They rushed her to the vet. While they were at the vet, there was trouble back home.

"I was outside with poison control and our youngest daughter started screaming because Wolfgar at that point had started seizing," said Stephanie

Stephanie said she and a neighbor were able to make Wolfgar throw up, then took him to the vet. She believes making the dog expel the poison, saved him.

Sadly, they were not able to save Brigit.

"We lost a member of our family in a horribly, traumatic way," Stephanie said.

Now, Stephanie's husband says he checks by the fence every morning, making sure his dogs and kids won't get into anything they shouldn't. The family just wants to know who did this.

"I can't imagine somebody who could do something like this, like I don't know what could be inside someone to want to inflict that much pain on any living thing, let alone a family, a family pet, you know, potentially a child," said Stephanie.

The family says animal control is investigating, and they're working to get the police involved.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for vet bills.
