One person dead after fight, shooting in Woodland

WOODLAND, WA (KPTV) -

Cowlitz County deputies are investigating a man's death after a shooting that took place at a New Year's Eve party early Friday.

Deputies said a group of men got into a fight at an address on Whalen Road in Woodland where more than 20 people were gathered for the party.

One of the men, Daryl Lee Martinez, 27, left the party and returned with a gun, threatening to shoot someone at the party, according to deputies. A resident of the home, Gage Hess, 22, then shot Martinez, deputies said.

Deputies confirmed one person died in the incident, but could not confirm if the death was a result of the shooting, saying the manner of death would be determined at an autopsy in the coming days.

Several people received minor injuries in the fight, but it wasn't clear if anybody else was shot.

Deputies said the investigation was still very active Friday morning and deputies had interviewed more than a dozen people.

There have been no arrests at this time. Deputies said both guns had been confiscated.
