Police: One injured after shooting in SE Portland

Posted: Updated:

It seems Portland already saw its first gang related shooting, just three hours in to 2016, and coming on the heels of a record breaking year for gang violence.

Officers with the Portland Police Bureau said this all happened across the street from a hookah lounge at 12446 Southeast Powell Boulevard.

Police said they were called to the neighborhood around 3:00 a.m. New Year’s Day. While they were driving there, officers noted dispatch reported that a large fight was happening and someone was yelling in the background about shooting someone.

When they got to the intersection, police found someone suffering from a serious gunshot wound. Officers tried to help that person with a compress stopping the flow of blood until medics arrived.

The victim was rushed to the ICU of a local hospital, and is expected to survive. Investigators believe the shooting is gang related.

Officers learned that a large fight had broken out, resulting in the single victim being shot, with a car being struck by gunfire as well.

As of Friday afternoon, no arrests have been made and no suspect information was available.

PPB officer ask that anyone with information about gun crimes in the City of Portland to provide information to the Bureau’s Tactical Operations Division at 503-823-4106 or email information to gangs@portlandoregon.gov.
