SPRINGFIELD, OR (KPTV) -

A high-speed chase that lasted a half hour led to the arrest of two people on Friday in Springfield.

Police said Eric Maxfield was driving a stolen car with Leola Voepel and a child near Gateway and Gamefarm Road.

According to police, Voelpel and the child ran from the car to a trailer park, then Maxfield took off.

Following a nearly half-hour long chase, police laid down road spikes along Highway 34 near Corvallis. Maxfield drove over the spike strips and stopped the car.

Police arrested Maxfield. They believe Maxfield is connected to at least one other recent car break-in.

"So we'll go down and do out interviews now, and I think several other counties are interested in talking to him about cases that they have," said Sgt. Pete Kirkpatrick with the Springfield Police Department.

During a search of the car, police say they found a meth pipe.

Police also arrested Voepel on the charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Maxfield is being charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, possession of burglary tools, DUII-controlled substance, parole warrant, eluding by vehicle and possession of meth.

The child has been taken to the Oregon Department of Human Services.
