A man was seriously injured after a pursuit with troopers in Umatilla County early Saturday morning, according to Oregon State Police.

Troopers attempted to stop a 1992 Honda Accord on Fulton Road near milepost 2 for speeding just after 1:15 a.m. according to police.

The driver attempted to elude troopers by speeding away.

According to police, the pursuit continued on rural roads where a trooper successfully deployed spike strips, flattening at least one tire.

Police said the driver continued to elude police and entered the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

Once on the reservation, the car stopped and a female passenger got out.

The driver then sped off in the car. Police believe the driver then fired a gun at a pursuing patrol car, striking it twice.

The car was later intentionally hit by two Oregon State Police patrol vehicles near the intersection of South Market and Tutuilla Church Road.

According to police, the suspect was seriously injured, and was transported by air ambulance from a Pendleton hospital to a Portland hospital.

Police said the troopers were uninjured.

The incident is being investigated as a deadly physical force incident.

Three Oregon State Police Troopers have been place on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice in these cases.

The investigation is ongoing.
