From the West Hills to downtown; snow hits Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

From the lower elevations to the West Hills, snow blanketed the city of Portland today.

The Miner family took advantage of the rare snow day, sledding down the hill at Council Crest.

The kids were up much earlier staring out the window at the falling snow.

“The kids sort of gathered up a nest of pillows and looked out the door. The first time we got out was in our pajamas actually they could’t wait.” said Jason Miner.

Middle schoolers in the area were surprised by the snow too and enjoyed their last day of winter vacation.

They wondered if their vacation could extend one more day due to the weather.

In the downtown area, the snow may have slowed max trains, but it did not slow down the dismantling of the Christmas Tree at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

People in the city showed us that the snow was not just for families with young children, or for families with small kids.

An impromptu snowball fight broke out in Portland’s living room.

"Coming down here in the snow it's beautiful I love it. We need more of this. Less of that hot weather we had the last two summers and a lot more of this," said Spenser Austin.
