Viewers share tips for walking on ice

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Much of Oregon and Southwestern Washington woke up to a thick coating of ice Monday, making for treacherous walking and driving conditions.

After watching some close calls with pedestrians on Good Day Oregon, FOX 12 viewers chimed in on social media, sharing their tips for staying upright on slick surfaces.

Some suggested wearing cleats or golf shoes, while others recommended traction devices that can slip on over your shoes.

A number of viewers also suggested a more homemade solution: wearing a pair of old nylons or socks over your shoes, which will stick to the ice and prevent slipping.

Whichever option is best comes down to personal preference, but anything to help gain some traction will come in handy, as icy conditions will likely persist for much of the day.

A quick search on Amazon showed clip-on traction devices available for as little as $10.
