TROUTDALE, OR (KPTV) -

Residents of a Troutdale apartment complex woke up to a semi-truck right outside their windows Monday morning.

Neighbors said the truck jack-knifed at the top of a hill on Southwest 257th Avenue due to icy conditions and then slid a few hundred yards, stopping mere inches from the Troutdale Terrace Apartments.

"It was just the most helpless sinking feeling," said witness Dylan Horsley. "I thought for sure he was going to go through one of the apartments, like drive through bedroom, or something."

Joseph Navarro posted a photo on Facebook showing the truck right outside his apartment window. If the truck came any closer, it would have slammed into a bedroom where a little boy was sleeping.

There were no reports of injuries from the crash.

"Thank God everyone’s OK, the driver is OK, everyone in the apartment is OK," said Horsley.

Efforts to pull the truck away from the building was challenged as the tow trucks being used were also sliding on the ice.

It was a concerning sight to those standing by watching.

"One wrong move pulling this out, and it's going into the apartments down below," said resident Colt Wright.

After multiple attempts, the tow operators determined it was too unsafe to try to continue pulling the truck out until more of the ice thaws Monday afternoon.
