A Corvallis man was arrested after hitting another man from behind with a thick glass marijuana pipe, according to police.

Officers responded to the lobby of the Benton County Jail at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

They arrived and contacted 42-year-old Jonathan Tucker who was suffering from significant facial injuries, including his right eye swollen shut and filled with blood, as well as a cut that was bleeding.

He said he was attacked by 45-year-old Donald Thomas Howard of Corvallis, according to investigators.

Tucker told police he was sitting on a couch when Howard punched him from behind while holding a four-inch marijuana pipe.

Police said Howard also threw the thick glass pipe at Tucker's face.

Officers interviewed a witness to the assault, who corroborated the story, according to the Corvallis Police Department.

Police said Howard was later found and arrested on the charge of first-degree assault for causing serious physical injury with a dangerous weapon.

He was booked in the Benton County Jail with bail set at $100,000.

Tucker was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.

A possible motive for the assault was not released by police.
