A three-alarm fire tore through a storage facility in southeast Portland on Monday.

Firefighters responded to the scene on the 7700 block of Southeast 92nd Avenue at around 1 p.m.

The fire was soon upgraded to a second alarm and then a third alarm. Portland Fire & Rescue reported that crews were forced to withdraw from the building.

Investigators said two people were thought to be in the building when the fire started, but firefighters were not immediately able to locate them.

The man and woman who were unaccounted for were believed to be checking on their storage unit, according to crews at the scene. Firefighters said the man and women were eventually located.  No injuries were reported.

Customers who rented space at the storage facility came to check on their belongings, and were heartbroken when they saw how large the fire had grown.

"My dad died when I was 16.  It’s my stuff," said Jennifer Fahey.  "My memories, my cameras, my pictures.  That’s what’s making me cry.  I can buy other stuff.  It’s the stuff that means (something) that you can’t replace."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Southeast 92nd Avenue was closed from Flavel Street to Tenino Court, as the fire burned into the night.

According to Lt. Rich Tyler with Portland Fire and Rescue, firefighters successfully stopped the flames at a firewall separating the north and south sections of the building.  Storage units south of the wall suffered some water damage, but were not burned.
