PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A bicyclist was taken to the hospital after crossing into traffic from MAX-only lanes and hitting a car near the Oregon Convention Center, according to police.

Emergency crews responded to the scene late Monday afternoon.

Investigators said the bicycle rider was heading westbound in the MAX-only lanes of Northeast Holladay Street when he began to cross Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, where southbound traffic had a green light and the right-of-way.

Police said the bicyclist collided with the side of a car heading south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The bicyclist was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.

Traffic officers are conducting an investigation. TriMet reported that the MAX Blue, Green and Red lines were expected to be delayed through 7:30 p.m. due to the crash.
