Portland auditor says Uber violated lobbying rules

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (AP) -

The Portland city auditor has fined Uber $2,000 for violations of lobbying rules.

Mary Hull Caballero says the ride-sharing company failed to disclose that political consultant Mark Weiner was working as a lobbyist on its behalf.

Weiner arranged a secret meeting at his home that included Uber representatives and two members of city council he has advised - Mayor Charlie Hales and City Commissioner Steve Novick.

The December 2014 meeting came as Uber was trying to get the city to change its taxi rules, which eventually happened.

The auditor previously sent written warnings to Hales and Novick for failing to report the meeting on their public calendars.
