LEWIS COUNTY, WA (KPTV) -

A man driving a Jeep Cherokee on Interstate 5 in Washington pointed a handgun out of his window and fired at least one shot, shattering the rear window of another car.

Now, Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses to the road rage shooting in hopes of tracking down the suspect.

Police said it happened at 11 a.m. Dec. 30 in the southbound lanes near the county line of Lewis and Thurston counties.

The driver fired at least one shot at a silver-gray Mazda four-door hatchback between Milepost 93 and Milepost 83. Police said the two vehicles involved in the shooting continued at a high rate of speed in and out of traffic until Milepost 80, when the driver of the Mazda lost sight of the Jeep.

Police contacted and interviewed the Mazda driver, but the Jeep was not found.

The Jeep is described as a black, mid-2000s base model with non-tinted windows and Washington license plates.

The driver of the Jeep is described as a white man in his 60s or 70s with gray hair and a gray beard. His passenger was a woman believed to be in her 80s wearing a red shirt with an oxygen tube in her nose.

Anyone with information about the investigation or the suspects is asked to call Detective Jen Ortiz 360-449-7948.

There were no reports of serious injuries. Police did not release what led to the incident, but described it as a case of road rage.
