A Tualatin High School teacher who pleaded guilty to second-degree sex abuse involving an underage student was sentenced to 160 hours of community service.

Jonathan Maggiano, 32, pleaded guilty in court last week. As part of his plea agreement, additional charges including luring a minor and sexual misconduct were dismissed.

Maggiano, of Portland, was arrested in September after a family member of the girl reported the inappropriate sexual conduct involving Maggiano to police.

Maggiano started as a full-time teacher at Tualatin High School in 2014. He taught introduction to computers, web design and computer gaming. He was a substitute teacher the previous year.

At the time of his arrest, detectives said they believed there could be more victims. In a letter sent home to parents, the Tigard-Tualatin School District said administrators were "shocked and very concerned about these charges."

Maggiano was placed on administrative leave at the time of his arrest. On Tuesday, a district spokeswoman said Maggiano is no longer a Tigard-Tualatin School District employee.

Along with 160 hours of community service, Maggiano was sentenced to two years supervised probation and he must register as a sex offender.
