PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Jesuit High School senior has been named by MaxPreps as the National Player of the Year.

This honor ranks Nicole Peterson, who won State Player of the Year and Gatorade Player of the Year for Oregon, as the best high school volleyball player in the U.S.

In the 2015 season, the 6-foot setter led the Jesuit Crusaders to their second-straight 6A state championship in 2015, as she tallied 956 assists, 142 digs, 120 service aces, 95 kills and 22 blocks.

Nicole is the daughter of tennis pros Rob and Carolina, and said her spin serve was developed at a young age and attributed it to tennis.

"It just came natural to me and I was strong enough to make it work," said Peterson. "Being named National Player of the Year is such a great honor. I don't know really what to say. This is just awesome."

Jesuit finished the 2015 season unbeaten (32-0) and was ranked No. 2 in the final MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National High School Volleyball Rankings, the highest finish ever for a team from the Pacific Northwest.
