NE Salem residents able to return home after liquid oxygen leak

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Residents in northeast Salem are able to return home Friday morning after a truck delivering liquid oxygen began to leak Thursday evening at the intersection of Widnsor Way and Royalty drive.

More than 100 residents were forced to evacuate due to the concern that the liquid oxygen leak could lead to an explosion, and 20 residents remained evacuated overnight.

Firefighters said the oxygen can mix with the petroleum in the asphalt and cause an explosion if cars run over it.

Emergency housing was provided overnight Thursday by the Red Cross at McKay High School.
