Police: 3 from Miami arrested in Beaverton, suspected of using counterfeit credit cards

BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

Three people from Miami Florida were arrested in Beaverton Thursday, suspected of using counterfeit credit cards, according to Beaverton Police.

Police said the suspects drove from Miami on January 2 and arrived in Beaverton on January 6.

After an alert from Beaverton patrol officers, Beaverton and Tigard Detectives began to watch the group for two days.

Detectives then witnessed some of the suspects using multiple credit cards for gift card purchases at several Walmart stores throughout the Portland area.

According to detectives, they were able to confirm that the credit cards were counterfeit, and found out that most of the victims lived in the Washington County area.

Beaverton detectives also found that some of the victims used their credit cards at the same local gas station.

No skimming device was found at the gas station pumps, according to detectives.

A search warrant was obtained for the for the suspects hotel room and vehicle, where detectives found over 240 counterfeit re-encoded prepaid credit/gift cards, a credit card encoder, gas pump keys, and 22 gas pump skimming devices.

Beaverton detectives arrested Marie Armstrong, 39, and Liorge Hernandez-Cueto, 34, when they returned to the hotel they were staying at.

Leorage Despaigne-Moreno, 26, was also arrested in the hotel room.

A fourth person was taken into custody, and eventually released.

According to police, Despaigne-Moreno had been arrested for these types of crimes twice since October 2014 in Kansas and Colorado. He was currently out on bond before the latest arrest.

The three suspects are currently being held at the Washington County Jail on $250,000 bail for identity theft, theft I, and aggravated identity theft.
