PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A new machine has been unleashed in an effort to make the sidewalks a cleaner place for the people of downtown Portland.

Dubbed "Poopmaster 6000," the cleaning machine will patrol the sidewalks in an effort to improve walkway conditions contaminated by the birds above.

Portland Mall Management Inc. and the Clean & Safe District are partnering on the Poopmaster 6000.

A Clean & Safe employee, employed through Central City Concern's Homeless-to-Work Program, will operate the machine. The machine is owned and managed by Portland Mall Management Inc.

During the winter months, flocks of crows roost in the trees downtown. The droppings left behind create a daily morning mess on the sidewalks.

Now, the Poopmaster 6000 will clean it all up Monday through Friday. It is expected to be utilized through spring.
