High-speed crash sends two to hospital; debris slams through Gresham salon

GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

Gresham Police are investigating a high-speed crash that sent two people to the hospital and debris flying through a local business.

It happened around 11 p.m. Thursday at Northeast 172nd and Halsey.

Witnesses told police that a driver, possibly going 30 mph over the speed limit, crashed into a woman's car pulling out of a parking lot.

The cars collided and police said part of the woman’s engine flew through the window of the Chadowboxx Salon.

It didn’t just break the glass, because the metal part sailed across the room, went through a wall and landed in the room on the other side of the building.

No one was in the salon at the time. Looking at the gaping hole in her wall, owner Charlisa Harris said she’s seen people speeding around the area before, but she never thought a crash could do that kind of damage.

“I just look at this and think, it’s definitely a blessing,” said Harris. “It could’ve been worse when you look at what else could’ve potentially happened. At this point, it’s just surreal. I’m in disbelief.”

Police are not yet releasing the names of the drivers involved, but they were both taken from the scene with injuries described as non-life threatening. No charges have been filed in the case at this time.
