Package of family heirlooms stolen in front of SE Portland home

It was meant to be a package of remembrance, but a local doctor says when she got home from work, that package was gone – swiped by a thief.

Elizabeth Kunkel returned to her home on Southeast 16th Avenue on Thursday, expecting a package of her late mother’s possessions on her doorstep.  Instead, all she found was an empty beer can.

The package containing a handmade Amish quilt, irreplaceable family photos and nativity sets from around the world – all belonging to Kunkel's mother – was gone.

"It's irreplaceable stuff. That is just really sad that someone would do that," said Kunkel. "And I know it is stuff, but it just means a lot to me … it would just mean the world to me if some of my stuff could get returned."

Kunkel said she hopes whoever did this has some compassion. She says she just wants the items back, no questions asked.
