PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that destroyed a barn worth $650,000 in rural Multnomah County.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded to the fire around 11:47 a.m. on Monday. The barn fire was located in the 8000 block of NW Kaiser Road.

When crews arrived they found the barn engulfed in flames and the owner was attempting to get items out of the barn.

The 10,000 square-foot barn contained farm equipment, all-terrain vehicles, fertilizer and hay.

TVF&R said the fire was extinguished from outside the building due to the likelihood of a structural collapse and the presence of ammunition that was stored in the barn.

One person was taken to an area hospital for smoke inhalation.

Fire crews were on scene for about two hours to extinguish hot spots. Fire investigators are working to determine how and where the fire started.

Firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue, Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, and Washington County Fire District 2 assisted TVF&R crews.
