Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon will not return to Portland, Rose Festival

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon is ending its run as an event in Portland.

Organizers made the announcement Tuesday on Facebook, saying "We apologize for the inconvenience, but would like to invite you to join us as we focus on our world class events in Seattle and Vancouver, for runners in the Pacific Northwest."

A Rose Festival spokesman told FOX 12 that Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series organizers did not feel the event was prosperous enough to continue in the Portland market and decided to move on.

The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon began in Portland in 2012 as a new signature event of the Rose Festival.

Bands played along the running route for a unique and upbeat atmosphere.

Rose Festival organizers said their goal is to continue with a similar race, only with a new name, partnerships and sponsorship opportunities.
