PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

People are still buying tickets for the record Powerball jackpot, and in just hours a possible winner could become one of the richest people in the country.

The jackpot is at $1.5 billion, but the winner could choose to get their winnings all at once and take the $930 lump sum. After withholding fees and taxes, that would leave someone who lives in Oregon with $469,696,150.05, or $561,765,330 if the winner is from Washington.

While that much money seems like many lifetimes' worth, you would not even crack the Forbes 500 list of the richest people in the world, or their list of the 400 richest Americans.

Residents from both Washington and Oregon are on those lists, including Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his former partner and Blazers owner Paul Allen, Amazon chief Jeff Bezos and Nike founder Phil Knight.

The winner would have an immediate net worth more than double the amount of the guaranteed payroll for the Trail Blazers, who according to Basketball-Reference.com will pay players $216.5 million based on current contracts. They would also be worth more than 77 times this season's guaranteed pay for the MLS Champion Portland Timbers.

The winner’s new bank balance would be able to stand toe-to-toe with athletes like Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Shaquille O’Neal and former Mariner Alex Rodriguez.

If someone matches all the numbers, they could immediately be on par with superstar actors Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson and Jack Nicholson. They would even match the worth of the entire cast of The Avengers, not including Sam Jackson.

While the winner will not be as rich as Paul McCartney or Bono, they would be in the same range as Elton John and Jimmy Buffet.

Winning the Powerball would also put someone on the same page as writers James Patterson and Stephen King, both of whom are worth just over $400 million.

The winner would be high in the polls compared to the field of Presidential candidates, with a new net worth more than double everyone running for the Democratic or Republican nominations combined, excluding one candidate, who himself is worth ten times the final take home value of the jackpot. You can guess who.
